An AmazonBasics Security Safe 0.5 Cubic Review Won't Answer These 21 Questions

★★★★★ An AmazonBasics Security Safe 0.5 Cubic review will not answer these 21 questions. Get the truth from people who own an AmazonBasics Security Safe 0.5 Cubic, including the fact that it won't...

QUESTION: WHO IS THE MANUFACTER ? ARE THEY EASY TO BREAK IN? I 'VE SEEN OTHERS THAT CAN BE UNLOCK BY JUST TAPPING ON TOP WHILE TURNING THE LOCK
• It's a great one and also it's very easy to use
• Don't overthink this one. It is just like a hotel room safe so you can get into it without explosives but it wouldn't be using a screw driver. It is well worth the money for a home safe.
• Made by Intelligent Electronic Safe. Strong difficult to break into. Will not unlock by just tapping on the top & turning the lock. I am very pleased!
• I am using it to store my handgun
• The OEM for this safe doesn't seem to be specified; you might try to ask Amazon, though I doubt they'd disclose it. For its price it seems pretty sturdy. For increased security it's best to bolt it to the wall, floor, or a strong shelf, since the safe is not very heavy and easy to carry away. I am using it to store my firearm, and to add an extra measure of protection for the kids, I made a cabinet with a lock and enclose the safe in it.

QUESTION: HOW MANY DIGITS DOES THE PASSWORD TO UNLOCK USE?
• You can program from 3 to 8 digits for your password. You can also program a "master code", also between 3 to 8 digits. Entering either code, followed by #, will open the safe.
• I use six digit and eight digit codes with this safe.

QUESTION: DOES THIS HAVE ANY PROTECTION AGAINST SOMEONE JUST PUTTING CODES IN OVER AND OVER? DOES IT LOCK YOU OUT IF YOU INPUT AN INCORRECT CODE MULTIPLE TIMES?
• It does lock you out after a few incorrect codes. I don't remember for how long it does though.
• I am pretty sure it does. Seems like when I was testing it out, I got locked out and had to use the 2nd code to get in. It does come with a key so if you are really locked out you can use the key to get into the safe. The key hole is not detectable, not easily seen.
• The instructions state you are locked out for 5 minutes if you fail multiple times. I put in some bad combinations and was locked out for a short time. I would like to see a longer lockout period, especially since they give you 2 keys.
• Yes. 3 incorrect tries locks you out for 30 seconds, 3 more locks you out for 5 minutes.

QUESTION: ANYONE HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE KEYPAD NOT OPENING THE SAFE? I'LL TYPE IN THE CODE AND IT REGISTERS AS UNLOCKED, BUT IT DOESN'T ACTUALLY OPEN.
• I have not had any problems with the safe.
• You will have to turn the round knob, I believe clockwise.
• You have to turn the knob.

QUESTION: IS THIS SAFE ABLE TO BE OPENED IF IT IS LAYING ON ITS BACK? I DON'T SEE A HANDLE ON THE FRONT, SO IT MAY BE TOO HEAVY OR NOT POSSIBLE...THANKS!
• Not easily since, as you said there is no handle. You could probably make a handle easily with a heavy duty magnet and handle from a home improvement shop for fairly cheap
• The dial that is used to open the safe has indents, so you probably could open it just by pulling on it, though my fear is it may not be strong enough to open like that on a regular basis - sorry I can't test that for you but mine is already bolted down the regular way.
• yes this is possible, the front door is quite light
• Yes it can be opened laying on its back. We just pulled up on the knob that you turn to expose the key. Don't forget the nine volt batteries...

QUESTION: WILL IT OPERATE IS A SILENT MODE?
• I've only opened it twice but it was totally silent both times.
• It seems that there is no silent mode. The instructions do not indicate so, and I hear beeps as I use the keypad.

QUESTION: WILL THIS HOLD A HANDGUN AND EXTRA STUFF?
• yes, this will hold a hand gun and the many other things.
• Yes it should be able to. Check the dimensions and make sure your gun would fit the box.
• Yes it will definitely hold a handgun plus other things. It has a shelf inside for two levels to put things. I can see someone putting 2 or 3 guns in here with no problem
• Oh yeah. Holds my ppk, and much more with more room to spare.
• It depends on the size of the hand gun. It holds a 9mm plus other things nicely.
• I have 2 handguns, holsters, and ammo in mine. Could probably fit another.
• Absolutely, I have 2 handguns, 3 extra clips and 4 holsters in there.
• Yes, plenty of room

QUESTION: IS IT FIRE & WATER PROOF?
• No.
• It has holes drilled to be mounted securely so logic will tell you regarding how water proof that makes it. Fire "proof" no, but more accurately, fire resistant.

QUESTION: HOW EASY IS IT TO BREAK INTO THIS SAFE?
• Not easy at all
• Never tried. My guess is not too hard. You get what you pay for.
• This safe probably has the same widely known weaknesses as others of its kind: (1) the electronic locking mechanism is susceptible to the "bouncing" attack (see http://goo.gl/Ef9PSk); (2) the key override lock is of the tubular kind, and can be picked with a tubular-lock pick. The structure itself seems to be pretty solid and not easy to pry open, but keep in mind it's not a multithousand-dollar vault. A determined thief can probably open it given enough time. You can improve the security by bolting the safe to the floor or a strong shelf.

QUESTION: HOW IS IT POWERED? BATTERIES? DO THE BATTERIES GO INSIDE? WHAT IF THE BATTERIES DIE? KEYS?
• four double A batteries, go inside
• Batteries and yes they go inside and it comes with keys

QUESTION: WILL THIS SAFE HOLD 2 HANDGUNS?
• Absolutely! There's a shelf in the middle so there are 2 levels to place things on. you could probably fit 4 or 6 (depending on the size of handgun).
• Yes, it should easily
• Yes.
• No problem, as long as it isn't a 45 with the extra long barrel.
• Most certainly! It's approximately 13" x 9" x 9" inside.
• Yes. I put 2 on the shelf & have the storage on the bottom.
• Yes. I put 2 on the shelf & have the storage on the bottom.

QUESTION: WILL THIS HOLD A BOTTLE OF JACK DANIELS?
• Yes, you should have no problem storing a bottle of Jack or more in it.
• Yes you can stack a case of pints or a half dozen 5ths

QUESTION: CAN YOU USE THIS WITHOUT BATTERIES
• Yes, with the keys that come with the safe. That means there are two ways to open the safe.
• Yes, it comes with a set of keys. No batteries means no keypad access.
• You can use the safe without batteries by using one of the two keys supplied with the safe. The key lock is located under a small plastic cover next to the latch.
• You can, but tou have to use the key to open it instead of the code
• Yes. Just use the key.

QUESTION: CAN YOU TAKE OUT THE SHELVES ?
• Only one shelf and yes, its removable.
• Yes you can
• yes, you can
• Yes the shelf is removable.
• Yes you can

QUESTION: I REPROGRAMMED THE CODE, BUT IT WILL NOT OPEN WITHOUT THE KEY. I DID USE THE RESET BUTTON. WHAT NOW?
• Try taking the batteries out for about 10 minutes to let reprogram, then put batteries back in press and hold reset button until you hear two beeps, while holding reset button put in new password then press the # button
• Refer to your manual, I had no problem programming my own code.. I recommend to read the manual carefully.

QUESTION: HOW MANY BATTERIES DOES IT TAKE?
• I believe it takes 4 AA batteries
• it takes 4 AA batteries and they do not come with the safe.
• 4 AA
• 4 AA

QUESTION: DO THESE REALLY HAVE CUBIC LEAD?
• What is cubic lead? I wash my hands before eating. Do you believe Amazon sells something forbidden by FDA? It is a great one, but manual sucks. FYI, you need to press "#" after passcode to unlock it!
• I agree with the previous answer. What is cubic lead? This safe is perfect place for me to secure my 5 handguns from kids and guests. Access is a cinch and the price is right!

QUESTION: DOES THIS SAFE HAVE A STRONG CHEMICAL SMELL?
• No. No chemical smell at all.
• Mine is smell-free.
• There's no smell whatsoever with mine

QUESTION: WHERE IS THE KEYS LOCATED @?
• Mind was in the pack with the paper work but the preset code is 154# I think
• The triangle piece between the key pad and knob pops off.
• I never opened this safe and I have no idea. If the safe is missing anything at all I did not do it. I did not open this safe period.

QUESTION: DOES MY 13.3 INCH MACBOOK PRO FIT IN IT?
• No you won't be able to
• Yes

QUESTION: HOW ON EARTH DO I OPEN THE PART WHERE THE KEY GOES IN??
• Gently pry the piece off with a fingernail.
• Use your finger bail to get under it and pull
• The triangle piece right next to the turnin knob pops off. I used a knife to pop mine off . .
• I used my knife from Amazon to pop it open.

QUESTION: WHAT IS THE AMAZON ASIN NUMBER FOR THIS PRODUCT?
• The ASIN is B00UG9HB1Q

  1. Hii, I just bought the safe and programmed it. When I hit reset and entered my code with the # at the end, the confirm light comes on. But when I close it and try the code to open it, the warning light pops up. What do I do?
