An AmazonBasics 8-Sheet Strip-Cut Paper CD Review Won't Answer These 44 Questions

★★★★★ An AmazonBasics 8-Sheet Strip-Cut Paper CD review will not answer these 44 questions. Get the truth from people who own an AmazonBasics 8-Sheet Strip-Cut Paper CD, including the fact that it won't...

QUESTION: ANYONE HAVE THE MACHINE STOP SHREDDING AFTER 15-20 MINS. OF USAGE? DOES IT NEED TO COOL DOWN OR SOMETHING?
• I haven't had that happen, but I've had it jam up easily, and had to take it apart 3 times now to clean it. I've only had it about a month, and I am VERY unhappy with it. My previous shredder was a tiny little desktop shredder and I had it for over 10 years with no problems. I accidently dropped it one day while emptying it, and it cracked, which is the only reason I purchased this new one....which sucks! You have to put the paper in perfectly straight, not at an angle, or it will jam. Also, if you shred check "carbons" or receipts that are thin paper, make sure you cover them with a heavier piece of paper first, or they will jam the machine. Horrible shredder....wish I never would have purchased it!!!!
• Mine stopped after about 2 baskets of shredding. Would only run in reverse and would not run when paper was inserted. This is a bad design anyway. If you measure from the bottom of the shredder assembly to the bottom of the basket it is about 10 inches so that the shreds never drop clear of the bottom of the shredder so there are always shreds hanging from the bottom of the assembly.
• The shredder seems to stop when it heats up. I would assume it has an automatic stop. I hate this shredder and would never buy it again. I threw it out yesterday.
• I have had mine stop shredding after a little while, it jams all up and you have you have to take it apart and clean it out. then it takes a while before you can shred again.

QUESTION: IN MY COUNTRY WE HAVE 240V OUTLETS. IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN STILL USE THIS?
• This item is not dual voltage. I'm stationed in Germany, but I have American & European outlets in my home, that's why I'm able to use it. You can use one of those converters, but it's not worth it.
• I am sure. It's small and would use the same voltage as any small appliance.
• I'm not sure, maybe if you get an outlet converter you may be able to use.

QUESTION: HOW LONG CAN YOU RUN MACHINE CONTINUOUSLY?
• I have not tested that. The longest I have used it for is maybe 15-20 minutes. But that's not 100% shredding the whole time.
• Before I moved, I cleaned out my files and used mine for 4 hours. I would have to stop and empty it, but used it pretty continuously. It still works. I just wish it were larger.
• I haven't used it for a long period of time yet, but I will after taxes and I shred old papers. The last one I had for many years and it shred a lot at a time and it was OK, so that's why I bought this brand again.
• Not sure, but I have sat there and shredded 4 inch stacks of paper for about 20 minutes before. The machine will get warm and be prepared to empty the bucket frequently. Also, it shreds in long strips ( only vertical cutting) and had a tendency to get jammed if you put on to much paper. Works great for my needs though
• I've had it running for about ten minutes continuously without a problem, again it is not a heavy duty shredder but 10 minutes 8-10 sheets of paper is pretty solid, so far I love and it's been several months.
• I ran it for about 1 hour continuously on one occasion, and it didn't smell or get hot or anything like that. Hope this is helpful.
• It doesn't run continuously because it employs an auto on/off switch such that the shredder turns on when paper is inserted, and turns off when its done (provided there is enough room left in the basket for the strips to clear the machine).

QUESTION: ON YOUR TOP TALK ABOUT-IT SAYS CROSS CUT SHREDDING, ON THE BOTTOM IT SAYS STRIP CUT SHREDDING...WHICH IS IT???
• This was purchased as a gift so we didn't see it in action but the box did say cross cut shredding on the label.
• strip cut. perfect for starting my wood stove.
• Strip cut.
• Not sure why it says that, but not my forum. It is a strip cut. But haven't tried the CD or credit card portion yet
• cross cut

QUESTION: HOW DO I FIX A PAPER JAM
• This is without a doubt a case of I got what I paid for and I had several paper jams myself until I realized what was causing the problem. I learned I either had to remember to pack the strips down frequently or empty the basket after 4 - 5 runs. Now to your problem. I'd like to say I found the secret to getting the jams loose, but I haven't. What I have found that works is a combination of turning the machine off and removing what I can from the shredder's underside. Then turn the machine on reversing the direction and pulling whatever I can from the top. Then see if you can get it to run in the forward (shredding) direction by inserting a firm, single piece through the credit card/cd area. If that fails it's back to using a knife, small screwdriver, of similar device to dig more paper out from the bottom side. Repeat until in frustration you order a better quality machine and donate this one... that's what I did.
• Tweezers are my got to tool
• Unplug the unit first then turn the shredder top over and piece by piece remove the shredded material that is jammed up in the teeth of the shredder, sometimes it is a pain staking process.

QUESTION: WOULD THIS SHRED CRIMPED PAPER TO MAKE GIFT BASKET FILLER? HOW WIDE/THICK/THIN ARE THE SHREDS?
• I believe so since the shredded pieces are so compact together but I can measure it for you and let you know asap to be more precise. But just by looking at them I can say they are pretty slim and as thick as the paper you shred.
• The shreds are 1/4" wide.
• I returned this item as it was too small for my use.

QUESTION: DO YOU THINK IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE TO PLACE THIS SHREDDER ON A LARGER BASKET? THE BASKET SEEMS VERY SMALL TO ME.
• There is an extension on the right-hand side that expands the support by 5" to 8".
• The support arm extends to the maximum to fit my waste basket that is 11" x 15" (opening at top) and 24" tall.
• Yes, I do it. There is a pull -out handle on the right side that fits over larger baskets.
• yes
• I am sure you could but its actually one of the larger baskets that I have seen.
• I have a 30-gallon paper recycling bin, and the shredder's extension arm barely spans the 16" width (measured outside lip to outside lip), but it does the job beautifully. I found that I can span the depth of the bin with a 12" wooden ruler and place the extension arm on that for more stability, but I haven't found it necessary to do that.
• The basket is quite small. I think the side has a small piece you can pull out to extend it. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to double check since I'm currently not where the shredder is. Maybe another customer can verify?

QUESTION: IS THE BASKET INCLUDED WITH THE SHREDDER?
• Yes!
• Yes. Very good shredder as I mentioned in my review.
• Yes the basket is included. The cutting device fits over the top. The basket is about 12'H 6"W and 10"L -- very compact. It's a good size for a small office or home usage but you'd need the larger sized unit for most offices, I think.
• yes it does
• yes - it is all complete.

QUESTION: CAN IT HANDLE UN-OPENED MAIL? SEVERAL SHEETS OF PAPER FOLDED IN THIRDS AND IN AN ENVELOPER, LIKE A CREDIT CARD OFFER MAILING.
• It suffers (meaning that it makes more noise than usual), but it can do it. My husband sometimes does it and it's still working fine.
• It will handle most unopened mail. I went to the crisscross shredder due to the fact this left papers in fairly thick strips that I felt could easily be reconstructed. Also, I shredded some credit cards in this one, and the number of the card was clearly visible.
• yes it can, but it is a little weak
• It will handle up to a eight paper thickness. One piece of paper folded in half equals two pieces of paper. How many pieces of paper do you think a credit card is? Do a credit card by itself to play it safe. It might do the full envelope. Plus this will do a CD.
• I have not stuffed a credit card offer into unopened but I have stuffed multiple unopened envelopes and it shredded them, no problem. I have shredded cd, credit card and thick construction paper. I really like this shredder for my office!

QUESTION: DOES LINING THE BASKET WITH A PLASTIC BAG DISABLE THE FUNCTIONING OF THE SHREDDER?
• I don't know. I use it without a bag and dump the shredded stuff in a bag to empty the bin.
• no
• Don't know. Didn't try it.
• Not at all. I use the plastic bags from the supermarket. Once it is full I take it out tie it up and put another bag in and start all over again.

QUESTION: DOES IT NEED OIL? IT RECOMMENDS I BUY OIL WITH IT, SOUNDS MESSY.
• I've never added oil to mine and it works fine ( I've had of for a few months ). But since it has mechanical moving parts, I'm assuming that it must need some type of librication. My advice to you is, it's really not necessary but if you chose to do it any way...Then why not.
• My last shredder overheated and never worked again. (kind of seized up). I think had I oiled it periodically, this would not have happened. I did purchase oil to use on this one. Just my thought...
• No I have barely used it and it is just not right. bummed
• I really can't answer that because I didn't buy oil with it before I threw it away. But using oil may have gotten the papers less stuck.
• You should oil it, it will last longer. The manual says cooking oil is OK. Youtube has videos on how to oil shredders.
• You can buy lubricating sheets and put one of them through instead of using the messy oil.

QUESTION: HOW BIG ARE THE STRIPS?
• 1/4 of an inch by the height of the paper you are shredding.
• They are about 1/4"
• 1/4". This isn't for use on highly sensitive documents, because it is strip cut. But I have found that 1/4" makes it useful for most run of the mill home document destruction.
• 1/4 inch wide
• 1/4 inch
• a inch..

QUESTION: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CROSS-CUT AND STRIP-CUT?
• Cross-cut is better because the product comes out in tiny pieces which is better for shredding sensitive documents. For strip-cut, putting the "shredded" document together is as easy as the shredding process. Not very useful for shredding sensitive documents.
• The strip cut shredder, which I purchased through Amazon uses rotating knives to cut narrow strips as long as the original sheet of paper. This is the simplest, cheapest form of shredding whereas the cross Cut Shredder uses two contra-rotating shafts to cut rectangular, parallelogram, or diamond shaped shreds of paper for a higher level of security. While strips of paper from Strip Cut Shredders can be reassembled by a determined individual, shreds of paper which have been cross cut are far more difficult to assemble and make up less waste volume. I like my strip-cut shredder as it fits perfectly my needs.

QUESTION: THIS SHREDDER COMES WITH THE BASKET? THE QUESTIONS ARE ABOUT PUTTING THE SHREDDER OVER A LARGER BASKET.
• It comes with its own basket. It does have a extending arm to go over a larger basket. Hope this helps.
• It does come with basket.
• It came as it looks in the picture.
• yes, it comes with the basket.
• It comes with the basket.

QUESTION: WILL IT SHRED NEWSPAPER?
• I dont see why not; havent tried but its solid with regular paper sheets so as long as not too many at once dont see a problem
• I just tried it, and after seeming to be fine,it would not do single pages, and actually jammed up the machine so that I had to clean it.....
• I am sure it will but not all at once. It would have to be ripped into smaller sections to shred it. It can handle about 6 sheets of paper easily. The opening can only handle an 8.5" piece of paper though.
• WELL,not the whole newspaper <<GGGG>>> but I'm sure it can handle a couple of pages at a time..... Good Luck :):):)
• I haven't tried but my assumption would be yes if it's no more than 8 pages or so at a time.
• Yes, you just have to be careful not to put too many pages at once or it will jam.
• Why would you want to shred a newspaper? Nothing confidential in a newspaper.

QUESTION: HAS ANYONE HAD SUCCESS WITH COOKING OIL TO FIX PAPER JAMS? BRAND?
• try needle nose pliers and WD40
• I clean the cutting mechanism with a strong thin wire then i spray it with the type of lubricant use for garage door rollers or simple silicon spray.Blow mechanism with vacuum cleaner...This is my story and im sticking to it...Miguel

QUESTION: NEED TO CUT A PIECE OF THIN SUEDE INTO RIBBONS. THINK THIS WILL CUT IT?
• I doubt it, it's made for paper and such not leather.
• I won't recommend this shredder at all. you are better of with scissors or cutters for quilting than this shredder.
• It won't do the advertised 8 sheets of paper, more like less than 6, so probably not the suede.
• I have found that this shredder is poor, and i plan to replace it. It worked ok for a very short time, then i had to keep backing it up, turning it on and off. At last use i was feeding one or two sheets at a time and it still did not work consistently. It has been a real pain and i would not even recommend it for tissue paper, much less suede. A disappointment.
• no. it gets clogged with anything but paper, if i dont remove the windows from junkmail envelopes it gets clogged, paper only and creditcards cds works great, but anything that can wrinkle...no.

QUESTION: PAPER GOT SERIOUSLY STUCK! REVERSE FUNCTION DOESN'T HELP. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
• Get some oil for the shredder and poor a little bit inside it. You can also use cooking oils if you're https://youtu.be/6yrXvtG5lSA
• Unplug. Lift the lid. Pull out stuck paper from the bottom. Plug in and test it out.
• This isn't tech support.

QUESTION: HOW WIDE ARE THE STRIPS?
• Each strip is about 1/4 of an inch. Again this is for the basic model. It does not crisscross. Just a plain ol shred. And by the way I don't use it for the credit card/cd shred function, just because it seems to be too difficult for it. While it will shred the plastic, it sounds like it'll lower the life expectancy of the machine too lol.
• Strips are 1/4 of an inch wide...
• My shreader doesn't make strips - it makes diamond shaped pieces approx. 1/2" long by 1/4" wide - probably better from a security standpoint. I hope this helps...
• Linda, I gave this as a gift to a teacher; therefore, I do not know. But she absoolutely loved it and said it was much better than her brother's whose she had been using. Darcy
• About an 10th of an inch
• They are very thin. Maybe 3/4 inch.
• Don't know - threw it away. Pretty wide I think.

QUESTION: IS THIS QUIET
• Semi
• No. I also had to send mine back after the first use because it wouldn't shred my old credit cards or CD's
• It's more quiet than my old one but does make some noise.
• about as quiet as you can expect a machine to be. Works well though!
• It is not extremely loud, about average for a shredder.

QUESTION: HOW DO YOU REMOVE THE HEAD OF THIS PAPER SCHREDDE?. I REMOVED THE BASKET AND STILL CAN'T REMOVE THE HEAD.
• You lift it up
• You don't! The head is a one piece unit that has to be disassembled by removing screws from the bottom side. If you have never done this I don't recommend it. A new unit is thirty dollars so why would you want to. Keep the basket for your recyclables and throw the head in the scrap heap! By a new unit! Paul in North Carolina
• You cannot remove the head on this shredder. If you want to do it anyway, you will have to unscrew from the bottom of the head. I think its too much work.
• I'm confused. I'm not sure what you are referring to as a head. I see it as two parts, the that shreds and the basket that accepts the paper. I don't think I'm much help. Jerry

QUESTION: ARTICLE I RECEIVED IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED, I WANT YOU TO CUT THE PAPER INTO SMALLER PIECES. WHAT CAN WE DO?
• It states that it is a 8 sheet STRIP cut not a shredder
• You should return it if it doesn't shred the papers as you wanted.... although this particular model did indicate that it would shred into strips.

QUESTION: DOES IT SHRED PAPER WITH STAPLES IN THEM?
• Yes, but when you manually empty the cut paper strips there may be small metal fragments may impale your hands or fingers! I always remove staples! Another alternative is to use scissors to cut the corners of the paper where the staple is located.
• Well idk cause mother in law uses it
• I believe it does. My papers are loose, but since it shreds CD's it would make sense that it would shred staples. This is just a basic shredder. If you need heavy duty, or cross cut, you should explore more expensive models. Hope this helps!
• I have never tried with staples--otherwise works great !
• Yes, it does a good job of shredding with staples.

QUESTION: WHAT SIZE IS THIS SHREDDER?
• 12x15x4 riugh guess
• Idk right now im not at the office but I work with in a busy office and im shredding paper all day and is a great product
• sorry i could no answers before internet problems is 7 " with 13" tall 13" lenght

QUESTION: BOUGHT THIS, USED IT TWICE AND IT HESITATES THROUGH THE ENTIRE SHREDDING PROCESS. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO MAKE IT WORK?
• Try calling the customer service number at the bottom of the screen. I did, and the representative helped me to troubleshoot the problem I was having. It still does not work well, but is at least working some.
• mine seems to be working ok...maybe you got a lemon...write the manufacturer
• Are you trying to shred to many shieets at one time. So far so good for me.
• I believe this means that the sensor isn't working properly. I would strongly suggest you return it and simply request a replacement. That's what I did and the second one is right as rain.

QUESTION: WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF UNIT
• It tells you in the description6.5 x 12.8 x 13 inches ; 6.2 pounds
• Product Dimensions: 6.5 x 12.8 x 13 inches; 6.2 pounds
• Amazon Basics 8-Sheet Strip-Cut Paper, CD, and Credit Card Shredder ASIN: B0050BPWBQ Item model number: AU820SD

QUESTION: IS THIS A DESKTOP, DOES IT SIT ON A TABLE OR DESK.
• It is small enough to fit on a table but I use it on the floor right next to my desk. It is about 14 inches high including the basket.
• I have mine on the floor, but it's small enough that you could put it on a desk or a table if you wanted to.
• It is small. I placed it on a chair to shred. Do not keep it on a table or a desk, since I do not have the space to do it. I keep it in the box to prevent it from dust.
• It can. It is small. There is a shredder and a little waste basket that fits on the top. The shredder sheds paper long cut. It is not a cross diamond shredder so the waste basket fills up very very quickly.

QUESTION: DOES IT CUT THE STRIPS WITH SMOOTH EDGES, (I WANT TO USE THE CUT STRIPS FOR PAPER QUILING) & ARE THE STRIPS ALL EVEN WIDTH OF 1/4". THANKS.
• The shreds look like long 1/4" strips.
• the edges are smooth and all even and they were a 1/4 inch

QUESTION: WHY DID IT STOP WORKING?
• Most likely you used it too fast or too much. Give it about 15 minutes to clear and it should be good.
• You can't really expect an answer with absolutely no supporting information.
• It may be jammed.
• I really don't know, S. I did not overfeed it, but it would seem to "clog" every 15 minutes or so. I spent much more time cleaning the blades than actually using it. Finally, I couldn't remove enough debris to get the contraption working again. :(
• Were you trying to feed more than 8 sheets at a time or papers with staples?
• It started working the next time we plugged it in . I don't know why it quit working for a while .

QUESTION: IS THERE A WARRANTY THAT COMES WITH THIS SHREDDER?
• Here's the customer service number: 866-216-1072
• There is nothing stated about a warranty in the manual or inserts.
• There is nothing in the instruction booklet about a warranty.

QUESTION: HOW IS THIS SHREDDER POWERED?
• Its electric...just plug it in...best shredder I've ever had.
• Plugs into an electrical outlet. If you are asking how powerful it is, it has a setting to shred credit cards and cds, so I think it does a very good job.
• Uses a standard two prong electric plug.
• It's electric. Standard 2-prong plug. It's a polarized plug, I believe.
• by electricity
• This is an electric shredder. It works great. I have not used two of the features as of yet, namely the credit card shredder or CD shredder however, it works great for my use. I run my business out of my home and the documents contain confidential information.

QUESTION: DOES THIS SHREDDER REVERSE IN ORDER TO AVOID PAPER JAMS?
• Yes, there is a reverse switch.
• yes
• Yes, it does. Not a bad deal for this little thing. We wanted one that was not too big and this does very nicely. So far so good.

QUESTION: NEEDED TO KNOW IF THE SHEDDER , SHREDS PLASTIC, LIKE VCR PLASTIC?
• I haven't tried, but since it has difficulty shredding credit cards & cd's, I would doubt it. The instructions also discourage any kind of laminated or coated paer, envelopes with plastic windows, etc.
• Mine shreds credit cards, Cd's, and DVD's with no problems. I am not sure about anything thicker.
• I'm not sure but I can guarantee that of will shred CD and credit card plastic.
• No. I don't think it can handle any more than a CD or credit card.
• I am not sure what VCR plastic is. Can you please clarify?

• I would say incredibly fast for the machine, great device !!
• I just did a test. The shredder recommends a maximum of 8 sheets, so 8 letter-size (8.5 inches x 11 inches) sheets took 6.3 seconds. One sheet took 3.3 seconds.

QUESTION: WOULD THIS SHRED CRIMPED PAPER TO MAKE GIFT BASKET FILLER? HOW WIDE/THICK/THIN ARE THE SHREDS?
• I believe so. The shreds are 1/4" or .25 inches in width.
• The strips are the perfect width to shred for crinkled paper ~3/8" roughly (from memory, I don't have them in front of me to measure at the moment, but I am familiar with the decorative crinkled paper strips and they'd be a perfect match, maybe not as nicely cut, but they'd work.
