An AmazonBasics Mid-Back Office Chair Review Won't Answer These 44 Questions

★★★★★ An AmazonBasics Mid-Back Office Chair review will not answer these 44 questions. Get the truth from people who own an AmazonBasics Mid-Back Office Chair , including the fact that it won't...

QUESTION: DOES IT COME ASSEMBLED IN A BOX? IF SO, HOW BIG IS THE BOX? THANKS
• Unassembled -- size approx 30x24x18.
• No it requires assembly. I don't remember the exact dimensions but the box it came in was not huge. Maybe 2.5 ft by 2.5. It's easy to put together and even came with a little allen wrench to put it together with. It took about 15 minutes to complete. It's a nice chair for what we paid for it. Hope that helps.
• No it does not come assembled. I found it extremely easy to put together and the secret is to take out each part and place them on the floor or rug and separate all parts and follow the simple instructions. Assembly starts at the very bottom of the chair and works its way up. If you have someone to help you line up the holes it would be helpful but not entirely necessary. I assembled my chair, alone, in about 30 minutes and did not run into any problems. No tools are necessary as they provide the wrench. SIMPLE TIP--start from the very bottom and work your way up using the limited directions to help. You will not have any problem. I have had my chair now for slightly over a month and absolutely love it. Hope this helps.
• no it comes flat with assembly required. Although the instructions and assembly were very easy and well done it did not take long to put together
• It doesn not come assembled. It is very easy to out together. I am not sure what the actual size of the box was but it was a a medium to large size box.
• No, you have to put it together.
• No, you will receive many pieces and you have to do the job. The box was around 20' x 20' x 22'
• So wish there was one that does. But directions were good. Not too many parts. Just lining up some of the screw holes in seat and arms was harder. All the rest easy. It was about a two foot box 1 foot deep.
• Need to put it together but my 67 year old husband had no problem. Don't remember the box size - maybe 4x4 ft & 6-8" thick.
• It is not completely assembled. Step by Step instructions are VERY clear and easy to follow. I assembled chair by myself in approx. 20 minutes. Very easy assembly, and stair is strong and sturdy.

QUESTION: FOR USE IN HARDWOOD FLOORS, SHOULD I REPLACE CASTERS WITH RUBBER OR POLYURETHANE ONES? WOULD THIS (HTTP://WWW.AMAZON.COM/POLYURETHANE-OFFICE-CA) WORK?
• No!!! You can buy a clear plastic that fits under your desk like a small rug and under your chair. This way you can use your chair and NOT remove the coasters. I have this and we have wood floors.....Kevin
• That work very well someone did help me chair

QUESTION: IS IT COMFORTABLE TO SIT AT FOR 12+ HOURS A DAY?
• I would say that is entirely conditional to how large and heavy the person is. For a petite or small and lightweight person, it would probably serve nicely, but for a very large and heavy person the padding and the size of the chair could become challenging. The average person (in the middle of this range) would be dealing with personal preferences and degrees of comfort more than anything else concerning this chair. I am a smaller man (5' 6" and normal weight) and I have no problem with this chair as far as comfort and fit are concerned.
• Yes as long as you provide yourself with a mini step stool by your feet so your legs have comfort as well. That's what I do.
• Eric, I have sat in this chair for up to 9 hours without a break and then took an hour break and back to it for another 2 hours. I have not owned it long enough to answer honestly to say if it is comfortable enough for 12+ hour days. I will tell you that it took the place of a High back office chair that I loved and had for many years and this is much better. I feel I have more freedom and plenty of room to adjust my position throughout the day. Great purchase for the price!!

QUESTION: HOW DOES IT FARE ON CARPET? DO THE WHEELS GET JAMMED UP OR WOULD IT BE OKAY?
• It depends on how "plush" the carpet is. I use it on a hard surface and it is excellent.
• I use it in my bedroom and it has carpet. It doesn't jam at all
• In general, I am very happy with the chairs (I bought two). Mine are on carpet and they do tend to get hung up to a certain extent but it is tolerable.

QUESTION: ARE THE ARM RESTS COMFORTABLE? A SIMILAR CHAIR I HAVE DOES NOT HAVE CUSHIONS.
• It has some padding on the arms so it's a bit more comfortable than I would have expected.
• Yes. Keep in mind, basic really means basic. The chair is comfortable, but not luxurious Corinthian leather.
• The arm rest have some cushioning, but not much. I use this chair when I work at my office desk. I don't use the armrest much. Check out Amazon's return policy if you're not sure about purchasing this chair.
• Yes. I usually rest my left elbow and right (mouse) forearm on the arm rests, and I find them very comfortable.
• Good product. I do not have any complaint with this chair.
• John, I think Amazon has a free trial period going on now for Amazon Prime. If you have Prime the shipping should be free, even if you send it back. Call Amazons customer service for more help.
• The armrests are comfortable. To me, this chair has some of the best pleather I've seen.
• they are, although I do have shorter arms (more petite body in general).

QUESTION: I AM 6 FOOT 3 WOULD THIS BE SUITABLE
• I am 5'4" and it is comfortable. Suggest you go to Staples or similar store and sit in their chairs to find one that is comparable and comfortable. Then decide.
• Maybe, I am 5'5 and I find this chair to be too low. I guess it depends on how high your desk is, but from an ergonomic standpoint, this chair doesn't rise high enough.
• You should be fine

QUESTION: HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO ASSEMBLE THIS?
• It should be less than 30 minutes unless one has a physical issue. The arms use two bolts each into the seat and the back for a total of 8 bolts. The lift mechanism has 4 bolts (if I remember right). The 5 wheels just push in with a hard shove. The shaft is set or pushed into the base and then the plastic shaft cover just slides in place. Finally, the chair assembly is placed on the shaft and pushed until you feel it catch. My wife likes this chair.
• like 10 minutes? the hardest part is using the short end of the wrench.. so if you are able do that, you're golden
• 10 to 15 mins tops. My son did it without any issues.
• Maybe ten minutes tops from directions.
• Its worth every penny. I love it wife loves it and my brothers love it. We're gamers and tv enthusiasts. Assemble in less the half an hour if you take your time.
• it took me ~2 hours because I was in a completely bare room. but, I think if you can prop the chair or yourself up on something, it would be much faster.

QUESTION: ARE THE ARMS REMOVABLE?
• Yes? You have to unscrew the first.
• Yes, they are bolted on.
• You can remove them if you want (or not assemble them to the chair in the first place), but it would be harder to sit in it. It's a pretty narrow chair.
• Yes
• Well you can but the arms hold the back on the chair. So you would be left with just the seat no arms and back.

QUESTION: HOW'S THE SEAT PADDING AND LEATHER HOLDING UP AFTER MANY MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP?
• Flat and chair creeks.
• It seems okay but then I am not a big person. It gets sat in by me every day. It isn't real leather but is soft and seems okay for me as to the covering.
• I am very happy with this chair..fits me perfectly..I am 5"2"..however it is not leather! I raised the seat to a better height and in using it for one day..the material rubbed off the arm! It is tissue paper thin...I am an interior designer and this is not leather. Really surprising to see it touted as such! Buyer beware!
• I've had this for about two weeks now and I actually really love them, super comfy and great deal for the price. I bought two of them. They're pretty rolly on tile but awesome purchase easy set up and really comfy
• After a couple of months of daily use still like brand new. Good chair for the money.
• The padding in my chair is fine. I sit in the chair 2 to 6 hours per day. This is an excellent chair for the money.

QUESTION: CAN THIS BE USED WITHOUT THE ARMS WITHOUT AFFECTING THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY?
• No, the arms have to attach to hold the back office chair on and in place
• no
• No, you must used all parts. Otherwise you would not be able to install the back of the chair. All parts are connected. You can only assemble chair by using all the parts.

QUESTION: IS IT REAL LEATHER OR PLASTIC PU LEATHER?
• It is not real leather. That being said, it is one of the better "pleather" materials I have seen. I've had mine for a couple months now and the only downfall I've had to this chair so far is the foam in the seat, after heavy use, cannot be felt. I simply put a blanket on mine and it's still the best office chair I have seen for the price.
• PU Leather, but its a great chair! I'm thinking about getting another one.
• I would say no to real leather. It doesn't smell like leather nor does it have a plastic smell. It is nice though. I had a chair like this before bought locally and the covering held up well but the base broke after several years use. It seems to be a nice chair for the price. I wanted a chair that wasn't cloth covered.
• No, it's not real leather. It is nice though.
• The chair is upholstered in bonded leather. It is not genuine leather.
• PU and the padding is not good for heavy people. Goes flat quick and chair creeks.

QUESTION: HOW HIGH IS THE BACK?
• Approximately 19" from the seat to the top. Still very happy with this chair.
• I am 5 10 and top of back reaches to my shoulder blades
• Very comfortable, This chair gives me the support I need for my back. It also lets me wiggle a little which is nice if you sit there for hours. Good buy.

QUESTION: HOW MUCH ASSEMBLY IS INVOLVED?
• My son assembled the chair in +- 30 minutes; 4 bolts in chair seat and 4 bolts in chair back.
• It was incredibly easy. It took me less than ten minutes to open the box, read the instructions (yeah, I know, but I just wanted to make sure - BTW, they were very intuitive), and get the chair completely assembled. The only tool needed (an Allen wrench) was even included in the package.
• 10 mins, max. The arms were the hardest to get situated.
• Not a lot, at all. My husband put it together in 10 mins
• It is fairly easy ... Comes with illustrated instructions on how to assemble
• Easy instructions, took me about 15 min, you put the base together, then the arms, which attaches the seat and back. So far I like the chair, and it was a good price.

QUESTION: IS THIS MADE IN THE UNITED STATES?
• Nothing against Made in America, but this would be more expensive if it was, unfortunately it was made in China because they have cheap labor.
• To be Honest with you I think it was made in China, Its a great chair for the price and I enjoy it every day....Kevin

QUESTION: IT SAYS LEATHER, BUT MOST OF THESE CHEAP CHAIRS HAVE A VERY THIN MATERIAL THATS STARTS TO FLAKE OFF AFTER A YEAR OR TWO. ANY ISSUES WITH THE MATERIAL
• Not yet, but it definitely feels like faux leather
• No issue with material, however I only had the chair a few weeks and cannot stand the hard seat.
• Its definitely not real leather. It is the synthetic material you would find on office chairs for sale at Office depot or similar. I sit on this chair all day at work for 3 months now and have not had any issues with the material ripping or peeling. The more expensive Staples version of this chair, started peeling after a few months. I would recommend this product.
• Not as of yet. It's decent quality for the proce
• Bonded Leather is a deceiving name for pleather. Not leather.

QUESTION: I AM 5' TALL AND HAVE LUMBAR SPINAL STENOSIS. I SIT AT MY DESK 99% OF THE TIME. WILL THIS CHAIR BE HELPFUL?
• There is added padding in the lumbar area which makes it comfortable for me. the seat height is adjustable.
• I think so, I am 5'10 and the chair is fine and comfortable.

QUESTION: CAN YOU DESCRIBE THE ASSEBLY PROCESS?
• No problem with the assembly process. Just the product itself, not worth it due to very thin cushion. I dont weigh a lot though.
• It's basically screws and a hex key. The base is the first thing and the parts are all complete. There is a plate on the bottom of the cushion that you would sit on and that plate holds the chair leg to the chair. The arms are screwed on and then the back is screwed on. There's no finishing the parts themselves, just putting them into something that resembles a chair. Also, I would say that the chair is thin but I haven't had a comfort problem. It's comfortable for what it is meant to do and I think I've sat in it for two hours straight in a four hour period.

QUESTION: HOW WIDE IS THE SEAT AREA MEASURED FROM INSIDE THE ARM RESTS?
• I would say about 20-23"? I'm not certain though.
• You're most welcome! If you haven't found a chair yet, the exact measurement between the arms (from the inside) is exactly 19.5" or 49.5cm. Hope that helps!

QUESTION: HOW DURABLE IS THE CHAIR? I TEND TO LEAN BACK WITH IT LOCKED AND MY LAST TWO CHAIRS HAD THE BACK PIECE RIP THE SCREWS FROM THE BOTTOM PIECE.
• The chair was purchased For a 23 year old student who uses it 6 to 8 hrs of day. He doesn't recline in it often tho. I shows very little wear. Very pleased with product.
• Don't bother buying this chair. It's crap. Rocks side to side and lowers by itself. Very unsatisfied with this chair.
• It seem pretty sturdy. I bought this for my son who goes thru several chairs a year. So far this one is hanging in. Hope this helps.
• I bought this for my 15 year old son. He uses it several hours per day. We've only had it about 3 months but it seems to be holding up well.

QUESTION: ON HARDWOOD FLOOR, DOES THE CHAIR EASILY FALL WHEN YOU TRY TO MOVE FORWARD?
• No it doesn't. I'm on hardwood floors and don't have any problems or issues.
• No, not in my experience. I use mine on a hardwood floor, and it's been fine.
• I didn't notice that.
• No.

QUESTION: CAN A PERSON OVER 300 LBS SIT IN IT
• I don't know I weigh 295 and it kept sliding down so I bought a different chair. I am quit heavy so I buy the heavy duty chairs.
• you could, but watch out anyways
• If you would open your eyes you would see that I did answer the question. The directions say a 250 lb weight limit. You need to open your eyes more and your mouth less. Not meant for you Paul, someone named Shopping Diva gave me a smart aleck remark without looking to see that I did, in fact, answer the weight question.
• How the Heck would I know? I weight 210 presently. The directions that came with the chair say the weight limit is 250 lbs so I would think 300 lbs would not be safe.

QUESTION: WHEN IT SAID 24 INCHES WIDE IS THAT THE SEAT OR SEAT AND ARMS
• Seat and arms. The seat is 20 inches and the seat and arms together are 24
• the seat is 20 inches wide, the 24 inches are the arms & seat
• With the arms, the seat is about 20" wide

QUESTION: HOW DO YOU GET IT TO TILT? I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS AND IT DIDN'T WORK.
• There is a tilt lock feature. Pull outward on the height adjustment lever to activate the lock. Also -- the big knob on the bottom controls degree of tilt. Good luck.......
• I just pulled the handle outwards and I'm able to tilt back. If that isn't working, maybe the handlebar isn't out all the way?
• The round device under the seat, loosen it up, the more you turn it the more rock you will have When it is tight it will not tilt.
• Pull the lever out (right side) to tilt and lock. I just leave it in this position but if I want no tilt, I just push the lever back into place.

QUESTION: WHAT IS THE RANGE OF THE SEAT HEIGHT (MEASURED FROM FLOOR TO TOP OF SEAT)? I ALREADY KNOW IT IS ADJUSTABLE, WANT TO KNOW THE HEIGHT (FOR EX, 20"-24")
• 16" - 19"
• Lowest height is 16" and highest is 20". Hope this helps.

QUESTION: HOW DO YOU GET IT TO TILT? I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS AND IT DIDN'T WORK. I HAVE FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED.I WANT TO RETURN
• you cannot..
• Use the lever on the right side of the chair below the seat to tilt the chair. The lever has two functions. Firstly it is used to adjust the height and secondly to tilt the chair. To tilt: 1.Sit on the chair upright without putting any pressure on the backrest. 2. Pull the lever out slightly. 3. While holding the lever out, put pressure on the backrest using your back and push backwards till you find the required tilt. 4. Release the lever. 5.Your tilting is complete. Trust this is useful.

QUESTION: DOES THIS CHAIR SWIVEL?
• Yes it does. Can make yourself dizzy if you wish.
• Yes!
• Yes it does swivel. Bought it about two months ago. Very comfortable. And sturdy. Easy assembly.
• Yes it swivels

QUESTION: HOW DO YOU GET IT TO TILT? I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS AND IT DIDN'T WORK. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED.I WANT TO RETURN IT.
• On the right side of chair, push the side latch bar in, towards you.
• I didn't know that it tilted...I just go up and down with the lever. I don't need a tilt function at my desk. I read the other answer and I don't have a side latch lever other than for raising and lowering.
• If the handle for raising and lowering the chair is not pulled to the outward position the chair is locked and will not tilt. Or perhaps you have the tension adjustment knob at full tightness.
• Very my chair

QUESTION: DO I NEED ANY TOOLS TO ASSEMBLE THIS CHAIR? ARE THEY INCLUDED?
• No additional tools are needed. The only tool you'll need is an Allen key that comes with it.
• The tools were included within my package.

QUESTION: CAN THE WHEELS BE REMOVED??
• Yes. All 5 wheels can be removed.
• This chair has to be assembled, the wheels are not attached to the base.
• Yes. They do not come assembled to the chair base. Just a simple press-in fitting. I do not think you would want to remove them frequently, however, since eventually they might not stay in.
• Yes, doesn't come with them on, you need to put them on.
• Yes you put them on when you assemble
• They can be removed but it is quite difficult to do. You will need 2 people. One on each end pulling in opposite directions.
• to my knowledge they can be removed
• yea

• It is adjustable.
• 18 - 19 inches
• The height is adjustable
• The seat height is adjustable.
• I just measured. It goes up 20" from the floor.

QUESTION: IS THE UPHOLSTERY MADE FROM REAL LEATHER OR IS IT PLASTIC?
• Sturdy fabric, impregnated with what looks like vinyl. Not bad, Not leather, but I like mine.
• It looks and feels like leather, so I would say that it is probably leather. It does not have that leathery smell, though. Plastic, definitely not!!
• I don't think it's plastic. Should be leather if I remember.
• The description on Amazon says it is leather and I see, feel, or smell no indication that it is anything but leather. The seat area and the sides are, however, different leathers. Softer on the seat area, stiffer on the sides.

QUESTION: HOW WIDE IS THIS CHAIR?
• The seat bottom is ~20.5", armrests at ~23.5" and seat back height is ~19.5". The chair itself is VERY comfortable!
• The seat is 20 inches wide

QUESTION: WHAT IS THE HEIGHT TO THE TOP OF THE ARMS? MY DESK HAS A CLEARANCE OF 24" AND I WAS WONDERING IF THIS WOULD FIT.
• My desk clearance is approx. 25 1/2 inches and the arms rub the bottom of the desk but only just. Although there could be something wrong with my chair adjustment, I have it at the lowest setting but it looks like it should be able to go lower.
• The height of the chair is adjustable, however the lowest level on my chair leaves an arm height >24" (which is quite low).

QUESTION: WHAT IS THE HEIGHT OF THE BACK SUPPORT? (FROM WHERE YOU SIT TO THE TOP?)
• From the seat to the top is about 19.5".
• 20 inches
• 19.5 inches.
• 19.5 inches.

QUESTION: ARE THE ARMS REMOVABLE
• No they are not.
• No, they are part of the frame and help hold the back to the chair.
• There would be holes taped showing I bought for husband who is uncomfortable with arthritis. He likes sitting in this desk chair more than all the furniture we have. The height of the arms, back and neck are perfect so they don't stress the pain he has in shoulders, neck, back.
• No, they are bolted to the back and seat. If you remove them the chair would be unstable.

• yes because there is no adjustment

QUESTION: HOW HIGH ARE THE ARM RESTS FROM THE SEAT? I JUST NEED THEM HIGH ENOUGH TO SUPPORT MY SHOULDER WHICH I HAVE SOME PROBEMS WITH. THANKS!
• I have measured 7 3/4 inches from the seat to the top of the arm rest. By the way...it's a great chair. Very comfortable.
• I think it depends how tall you are. I found the arms high enough. 5.6ft
• It depends on the hight of the person. The one I got is good enough for my hight 5.6
• Approximately 7 inches from the cushion to top of the arm

• I'm 6' and a coder and can sit in it comfortably for extended periods of time. It is sturdy enough however it is still an economy chair and if you are looking for a 'main chair' I would probably look in the higher price ranges.
• Honestly no, I'm 6 ft and its odd
• No. I don't feel comfortable either and I'm 5'5"! No cusion for your tush!

QUESTION: ARE YOU ABLE TO LEAN BACK IN THIS CHAIR?

• No. The arms need to be attached. The chair comes with assembly required.
• Yes, the arms are attached and the rest of the chair is a "breeze" to put together. No Engineer Degree needed!!!!

QUESTION: CAN YOU REMOVE THE ARMS?
• Yes.
• Actually you cannot. Its what holds the back and the seat together.

QUESTION: IS IT COMFORTABLE? BASIC QUESTION BUT THAT'S MY BIGGEST CRITERIA WHEN SHOPPING FOR A CHAIR.

  2. Help!!

Just bought one of these and am having trouble getting the seat plate to catch when I lower it onto the base/lift post. I've got the seat plate hole aligned with the post, of course, but the seat basically just sits on the base post without connecting, and the base falls off when I lift the chair.

Pushing the seat down hasn't helped, nor has sitting on the seat. As I look closely into the seat plate's center hole, here just doesn't seem to be anything in there for the post to catch onto, so I'm not even sure how the connection is supposed to work.

Has anyone else had this problem? Everything else about the chair has assembled smoothly, so I'm completely baffled by this.
