A FIRE HD6 Kids Edition Review Won't Answer These 19 Questions

I'M TRYING TO DECIDE BETWEEN THE FIRE HD6 KIDS EDITION ($149) AND THE FIRE KIDS EDITION ($99). I CAN'T FIND ANY COMPARISONS ONLINE. THOUGHTS?

• based on the $99 kids edition at this link Fire Kids Edition, 7" Display, Wi-Fi, 8 GB, Blue Kid-Proof Case vs the $149 version at this link: Fire HD 6 Kids Edition, 6" HD Display, Wi-Fi, 8 GB, Pink Kid-Proof Case I would go with the $99 version because it comes with the SD card* slot so you can add up to 128GB of storage. The available storage is really only 4.5GB and if you use too much it shuts down the wifi. The only problem I had with the new version with the SD slot is that you can't play music in FreeTime. *Fire tablets support all classes of Ultra High Speed (UHS) MicroSD Cards. For non-UHS MicroSD Cards, Amazon recommends Class 10 MicroSD Cards for optimal performance. Class 2 MicroSD cards may not perform well enough to support video playback or capturing burst mode photos.

• Do NOT get the HD Kids Kindle for $150. I purchased one and immediately returned it because my non-gamer child filled the available storage within one day, it shut down and wouldn't connect to wifi, which is needed to delete content. Massive headache. I purchased the regular HD Fire instead (non-kid version) and while it doesn't fill up as quickly, I still have to go through his content every other day to delete things (that he's using daily too and then has to redownload, so dumb). I purchased this new Kids Kindle for $99 and while we haven't used it yet (gift for my daughter's birthday in a week), knowing that it has a micro-SD slot for additional storage is all I need to know it's a thousand times better than the original Kids Kindle. Kids do not need HD anyway.

• I have the 99 dollar one which is the newer model ( don't ask me why it is cheaper ). I like mine. It is a bit confusing how to allow certain things etc because there are two completely different operating systems working .. one is for you and the other is for the kid. There is a lot of control over what your child can do and it is a good size and does more than enough for my child. I hope this helps. Sorry I cannot give a comparison. When I bought mine I went with the cheaper because it was the newer model and I could not find any major differences except the 99 had a 7 or 8 inch screen and the 149 one had a smaller screen

• My grandson loves his fire kids Kindle . It has games and books already on it . the books read to him. He's even dropped it a few time and case that comes with it protected it. It has a timer you can set so it turns off. It's easy to use and we love it

• Not sure about the specs but the hd6 is a 6 inch tablet and the kids Kindle is 7 inches. I returned the kids Kindle and got the galaxy tab 4 7 inch. IMO a way better choice.

• The 6 is hd the 7 is not . The 7 has a memory card slot the 6 does not. They both have freetime for a year and 2 year guarantees

• My granddaughter is 30 months and loves the 7 I bought her. You can down load things on memory card and use without wi

• Don't buy either I returned mine getting a iPad instead

• I would suggest go for kids kindle $99 ...

MY DAUGHTER IS ALMOST 9. IS SHE TO OLD FOR THE FIRE KIDS EDITION?

• I just got the one for a 9 year old who's birthday is today. I played around with it and it's a smaller version of the 8.9 HDX I have. Not as sophisticated of course buts it's still a regular fire tablet so all will be good. Just get a lot of kid perks with it. It's just a fire 7. It actually has a couple features mine doesn't that I wish it had. Worth it definitely.

• Like has been stated, it's a normal Fire 7 with kid stuff pre-installed and durability included (case and waranty). There is actually an option for "teen profiles" for older kids (not mentioned in descriptions). It looks to be built to somewhat grow with your kids or be a "family tablet". Age isn't really a factor I've seen.

• Sorry, I don't know. I got them for my granddaughters for Christmas. Good Luck.

CAN YOU DOWNLOAD YOU TUBE ON THE FIRE KIDS EDITION?

• Hi Carrie! I couldn't load YouTube on the children's profile, but you can switch between the child profile and parent profile easily. I have it on the 11 and under setting, so the 11 and older setting may. You can also share apps that you download on the parent profile to your child's profile. Essentially you can watch YouTube through the browser and there are apps that you can download to take you to YouTube. I hope that helps! We LOVE it so far.

• It is like other tablet. So.. if you can download youtube video with another tablet, you can download it here also.

• Yes this tablet is a very nice childs tablet. And you can download you tube on it.

• Yes! you can use the internet just like on any tablet

• Yes

• Yes

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE KINDLE FIRE FOR $50 AND THE FIRE KIDS EDITION?

• I mainly bought the kids addition bc it came with the case and a really good warranty. The kindle I bought was for a 3yr old so those were big selling points for me. As a prime member I could have accessed the kids apps for a minimal monthly cost but I thought this was best. My older children will get the $50 version.

• I believe the kids edition has a special case, some apps just for kids and the ability to lock it down so that kids do not get to inappropriate sites. It believe it also comes with an extended warranty.

• Has a two year no questions warranty, and one year of freetime. In addition to special parental controls. But other than that, the same as the $50 fire.

IS THE FIRE KIDS EDITION LIKE THE REGULAR FIRE TABLET? I'M BUYING ONE FOR A 5 AND 8 YEAR OLD, BUT THEIR MOM MAY NEED TO USE IT TOO. THE APPS LOOK A LITTLE JUVENILE.

• The tablet also has the ability for an adult to use for certain things. I have five children two got thier Fire tablets last year and this year the two older ones will get theirs....my child are from the ages of 3 months to 7 years.

• It's Ok for Kids, quite slow so an adult may get frustrated. yes, it's just like a regular tablet when it's not in kids mode. But for the price it's not bad.

• They are for children. They are made so children can easily navigate them.

DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE WIFI TO USE THE FIRE KIDS EDITION? CAN THE FIRE KIDS EDITION BE USED IN THE CAR?

• Some things work without wifi. And I think you can download movies to the device so that they will play offline, but we haven't tried it yet.

• My kids haven't had any issues using it in our car. Some apps just don't work, but a lot do. With wifi has better results though.

• Most of the applications dorequire wifi but not all we use it in the car daily with hotspot

• You can read books, take photos, and play some apps off wifi. But I runs mostly on wifi

 RECOMMENDED EARLIEST AGE ???

• The device itself is fine. Apps work just like on an ipad or similar. FreeTime Unlimited is another story if you want to restrict content only to items that you choose for your child. There is no way to limit the "unlimited" content to just a few apps. They have access to the entire library - thousands of items. Too many choices does not work for very young kids, in my opinion.

• Bought for my 16 month old for Christmas so not sue of age but my grandson is able to work my iPAD

CAN I GET YOUTUBE ON THE FIRE KIDS EDITION?

• Yes, you can get YouTube on the Kids Edition. If you want your child to be able to access YouTube on their profile you would have to unblock it in the Parental Controls. You can access it on the locked "adult" profile without unblocking it, however.

• I believe so. I know you can get facebook, I bet you can download the app.

• I downloaded YouTube for Kids with no problem::))

• Yes both via the browser and downloading the app

• Yes, you can download the app.

CAN YOU GET OTHER APPS BESIDES WHATS IN AMAZON?

• It is an Android-based OS, so I assume you could also access GooglePlay and the other Android Marketplace Apps. I purchased this for my boys for Christmas, so we haven't opened them yet.

• I have been able to download all apps that i wanted. So i believe you should be able to get whatever apps you like

• I believe so you just have to do a search or look for the app.

• I'm still figuring it out myself

IS THERE A DIFFERENT LANGUAGES OPTION?

• Yes when you do your initial setup it gives you the option on what language you wanted. Im sure you can go back and change the language when and if you needed to as well.

• Yes , you can switch the language. This is an awesome tablet. I bought it for my 4 yr old. He was able to navigate on his own in 2-3 days.

• I am saving them for Christmas so I am not sure. I haven't opened them up.

• Yes

DOES THE CASE HAVE A KICKSTAND SO IT WILL STAND UP ON A PLANE TRAY TABLE?

• There is no kickstand, though I'd almost expect there is a workable case that has one aftermarket - probably not with so much padding.

• No, and its software is a trap to make you depend on prime

• It didn't come with one. Other than that I don't know.

• No, and it really does not protect the glass.

• No, it doesn't.

• No

CAN MY CHILD ACCESS THE INTERNET ON THE FIRE KIDS EDITION?

• The internet can be accessed through this tablet but not through the child's profile only the adults profile which has to be password locked on this tablet. There is a option for a children over 6 or 7 that may have access to it in a limited capacity but I'm not sure but if your child's under that age then no internet

• Yes.

• Yes

 ARE THERE INSTRUCTIONS FOR BROWSER?

• I do not know I never purchased one it seems that You cannot add only a limited number of Apps

• No physical instructions, but there is an electronic guide on the tablet itself.

DOES THE FIRE KIDS EDITION COME WITH OR WITHOUT ADVERTISEMENTS?

• Its without advertisements, but very limited content is free not like netflix

• I don't believe that there are ads on the kids edition.

DOES THE FIRE KIDS EDITION READ STORIES TO KIDS?

• It's a Christmas gift, I haven't played with it yet-not sure what all it is capable of....

• Yes! So many books in the app section.

DOES THE PROTECTIVE COVER COME OFF?

• These were a gift for my great grandchildren, so I don't know, I'm so sorry I wish I could of helped you.

• Yes it does.

CAN YOU DOWNLOAD THE WIKIPEDIA APP. I WANT SOMETHING WITHOUT THE INTERNET ACCESS, BUT WIKIPEDIA HAS GOOD ANIMAL INFORMATION.

• Yes I can

• Yes can

• Yes

CAN KIDS WATCH NETFLIX ON THE FIRE KIDS EDITION?
• I wish I could answer that, I will not know till Christmas. Its a gift.

• Yes

DOES THE FIRE KIDS EDITION COME WITH A SCREEN PROTECTOR?

• No bought it separate

• No it doesn't.

• No it doesn't
