An Amazon Fire TV Review Won't Answer These 134 Questions - Part 4 of 4

★★★★★ An Amazon Fire TV review will not answer these 134 questions. Get the truth from people who own an Amazon Fire TV , including the fact that it won't...

QUESTION: WILL IT WORK IN INDIA?
• if you have the internet you can watch anything in any country
• This where Amazon says it works.... https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201624360

QUESTION: SUBSCRIPTION NEEDED?
• You need an Amazon account to buy/use the Fire TV. Subscriptions are available for some apps.
• No this is just a streaming device. If you want to watch TV programs it may require subscription. But not for the device.
• No.
• No. Just prime membership. Well worth it!!!!!
• To Alexa ? No To Amazon prime? Yes
• I would recommend you sign up for Amazon Prime so you will be able to see all of the movies and tv shows that Amazon offers. I don't think a subscription is require to use the device. But any service such as Netflix, or Hulu you will need to have a subscription.
• yes, if you wish to access Netflix or Amazon Prime.

QUESTION: IF I DECIDE NOT TO GET PRIME NEXT YEAR...CAN I STILL GET NETFLIX THROUGH THIS BOX
• I am sure you can because prime & netflix are seperate subscriptions.
• Not positive but I assume you'll get netflix for free and some items you will have to pay for if you want to view them.

QUESTION: USING IT OUTSIDE THE US???
• Yes, the Amazon Fire TV is going global and here are the countries that it can be used in..... https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201624360 Amazon is adding countries every 90 days or so and updates this link.
• Would not recommend using this outside the US. But if you are and really want this I would suggest a US based vpn so that you appear to be in the US. This will greatly impact your ability to stream well, but it could be tolerable. Even if Amazon is available in your country many of the third party apps are not.

QUESTION: DOES IT SUPPORT BLUETOOTH
• Some bluetooth profiles are supported on the Fire TV. Here is the link for adding ...... http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201739920
• Yes

QUESTION: WHAT NEWS PROGRAMS ARE AVAILABLE?
• There are a bunch nowadays in the App section. My favorite one is CBSN that has live stream. Many of the others are videos that you can find on news.Google. Sling TV also has CNN live as well as ESPN 1 & 2 in their basic 20/mo mix of networks. The CBS news app is free.
• Thanks. -but I gotta have Fox!
• I watch over the air on my fire t.v. I did have to buy a Sliconedust HomerunHDget all the locals on my network. I use Plex app, Netflix, Hulu and you can side load Kodi/XBMC which gives you a ton of choices. I have completely cut the cable/satellite cord. Fire t.v. Gives me a sleek fast why to stream to my tv's

QUESTION: CAN I STREAM PHOTOS FROM MY COMPUTER OR SNAPFISH USING THIS DEVICE?
• Yes. Check this link https://youtu.be/OKOkN8a7WJY

QUESTION: CAN THIS BE USED WITH A COMPUTER?
• The Fire TV does not need a computer like a Chromecast. The whole point is to make it easy to use with simply a remote and apps. If you want to set up a media server, you can stream to all your connected devices including the Fire TV if you want. The most popular app for that is Plex. There is a free media server for your computer at plex.tv.
• No as it's a mini computer itself. You can however connect it to your monitor via HDMI.
• It could be used with a computer's monitor, if it had a HDMI input
• A computer HDMI is an output as it is in the Fire TV and FireTV Stick, so no point in connecting them.

QUESTION: WILL OLDER VERSIONS OF FIRE TV BE UPGRADED TO 4K
• They can't get to 4K but they will get Fire OS 5 and Alexa. With the optical output the 2nd Gen does not have, could be a premium on the used market though.
• Yes actually I get it the last versions the new Amazon Fire YV

QUESTION: WILL IT WORK IN AUSTRALIA
• http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201624360
• Yeah mine works fine in Australia. You'll need a VPN service like Getflix to access the US only stuff like Amazon Prime streaming. And it's a little more fiddly than other devices to setup the Getflix DNS. But the advantage it has over others like Apple Tv is that it has an ethernet port so you can use cable rather than WiFi for better speeds for 4K etc. Oh and only other thing you'll need it a $5 adapter plug to go from American power plug to Aussie power plug.

QUESTION: WITH THE NEW FIRE TV CAN I SIDE LOAD APPS ONTO IT LIKE KODI
• I would assume yes. I just side loaded Kodi on my streaming stick two days ago. Unless they release some sort of block with the new update you should be fine.
• [Deleted by Amazon on Sep 19, 2015 1:29:38 PM PDT]

QUESTION: CAN I SURF ON THE INTERNET USING ONLY THE AMAZON FIRE WITHOUT STREAMING FROM ANYTHING?
• There is no browser on the Fire TV. Without a keyboard/mouse it would be a pretty poor way to surf anyway. If Amazon adds that feature, it will be highlighted on the main Fire TV page I'm sure. But it would not work very well for that.
• I am not sure if you are asking about the Amazon Fire Tablet or Fire TV, however both depend on the internet to allow them to stream Netflix, Hulu etc. The Amazon Tablet can connect to Cell Phone networks such as Verizon Wireless or At&T. In any case all streaming devices require the internet to stream video or audio.

QUESTION: IS THERE A WEB BROWSER ON THIS?
• Nope. You can use an Android device and mirror your browser. But without a keyboard/mouse entering an http address would be a pain.
• No there is not a WEB browser included but youtube is included if you were looking for on line videos.

QUESTION: WE TRAVEL IN A MOTOR HOME WE HAVE A 50" TV AND HAVE DISH BUT ALSO WI FI CAN WE USE THIS ALSO
• You can, but all streaming devices use a great deal of data.
• If you have a fast wifi yes. Otherwise you'll see a lot of buffering.
• As long as you have wifi, you can use this. Well worth the money:
• yes
• As long as you have an Internet connection you can plug the Fire tv to your modem/router. If not then go with the Fire Stick
• I'm not really knowledgeable about tech stuff, but as it was explained to me, if you have internet, you can use it. Hopefully, someone more savvy will come along and give you a more in-depth answer.

QUESTION: WHY IS MY REMOTE NOT DETECTED?
• My Fire tv detects the remote at all times but some times you have open the bottom and remove the batteries and put them back in, for some reason it works right after that
• Your batteries may be dead. The ones that came with mine were

QUESTION: WILL THIS WORK IN KENYA & WHAT ARE THE LIMITS?
• As long as you have high speed internet I think it will. At least 15 Mbps. Great product. If you want to use it for a 4K TV you need to stream at least 20 Mbps. Box won't do much without subscriptions to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu ect....
• I'm sorry I can't help you. I don't know the answer. I was just looking for a good spot to make a political joke. Doesanyone know of such a place?
• This is where Amazon says it will work... https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201624360

QUESTION: DO I NEED TO PAY FOR A SUBSCRIPTION TO NETFLIX AND HULU ?
• Only if you want those premium services.
• There is a free version of Hulu. We pay for full Hulu, but Hulu freezes a lot for me and many of the features (voice search, 15 sec fast forward, etc.) don't work.

QUESTION: WILL I BE ABLE TO WATCH SPORTS
• You can get Sling TV with ESPN 1 & 2 for 20/mo and if you want all flavors of ESPN add 5/mo. MLB is available and several other leagues have apps. Mediahhh has rugby, soccer and racing streamed live from the UK for free. I use a digital antenna for weekend sports from my local stations. There is no compression used by the cable service and the picture is crisper with no cable or internet required.
• Yes there are some sports channels that will work.
• You can with the ESPN app or you can sling for additional monthly fees. You won't have near the selection you have with cable or satellite, though.

QUESTION: IF YOU ALREADY HAVE THE ECHO, CAN IT CONTROL THE FIRE TV?
• Not yet.
• I'm sorry, but I don't know what the echo is.
• Nice idea but it comes with a separate remote and the speech synthesis engine is loaded on the fire. I think it might be a bit redundant.

QUESTION: CAN I WATCH MOVIES FOR FREE?
• A large majority of the movies are free with Prime membership, although most of the newer movies have a cost associated with either buying or renting.
• There are older movies and TV shows normally with ads for free. If you have Prime, all those shows are included in your membership. You can also rent movies for the price of a tub of popcorn at the theater.
• If you have a crackle account
• If you are technically saavy enough to install and learn about Kodi you can watch whatever you want. Please note the use of Kodi or sideloading apps is not Amazon approved and may violate copyright laws.

QUESTION: WHILE WATCHING HULU, MY FIRETV, STOPS WORKING AT EVERY AD AND TAKES ME BACK TO THE HOME PAGE? WHY?
• The short story is, you do not have enough internet bandwidth.
• I'm sorry I don't know, I use Netflix and by far it's streamed better than on any other device

QUESTION: I HAVE CHANGHONG 4K TV BUT AFTV WONT STREAM 4K SAYING HDCP 2.2 IS NOT SUPPOORTED BY THE TV. IS THERE Z WAY TO FORCE 4K STREAM?
• Here is all I can find on HDCP 2.2 & 4K..... https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201859000
• I bought the same tv as you thinking I would be able to get 4K and unfortunately found out no we can't get 4K since it doesn't support HDCP 2.2...that's what we get for getting a 42 inch $279 TV lol https://www.reddit.com/r/hometheater/comments/2n7c2v/anybody_have_experience_with_changhong/

QUESTION: CAN I WATCH SPORTS CHANNEL
• The app Sling TV has ESPN 1 & 2 for 20/mo and all flavors of ESPN for an additional 5/mo. Also leagues like MLB have their own apps and more added all the time.
• there are apps which allow various Sports channels.. Yes, good luck

QUESTION: WILL I BE ABLE TO MIRROR MY KINDLE FIRE HDX USING THIS DEVICE?
• Your HDX can also do second screen as well. I find using the landscape mode works the best for mirroring. Here is a link for details.... http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201453020
• http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201453020 This should help you. Good luck. If not you can buy a program to help u do it on amazon fire.
• I don't know

QUESTION: WHAT IS THE LATEST SOFTWARE. I HAVE 5.0.2.2 BUT, MY OVERALL VOLUME IS STILL VERY LOW COMPARED TO ROKU.
• Software is being upgraded to 5.0.3.1 and being done incrementally so leave your Fire TV plugged in (it can be in sleep mode).
• I'll check when I'm home!

QUESTION: WATCH IT IN THE UK
• https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201624360
• I am in North America, so I don't know if you can take it over seas and trade out the A/C adapter or not, but there is at least one app so far that I have found that shows European programs. It is my understanding that there are help pages that can answers the more technical questions on the Amazon website it's self, and I would definitely recommend checking in to that for a more definitive answer.
• Absolutely you can watch in the UK

QUESTION: CAN FIRE TV SHOW FULL SCREEN AND BE WATCHABLE WHILE FAST FORWARDING LIKE APPLE TV? ROKU FAST FORWARDS TO FAST TO WATCH AND IS SMALL ON THE SCREEN.
• Yes, you can.
• Yes if you set your TV screen for stretch fire TV is HD and it has black spot on the sides.

• Apps.
• MicroSD is a memory card used in cameras for instance. If you record a video and want to watch it through your fire TV, use that slot in insert the card from your camera or other device.
• The SD card is for additional storage capacity above the stock internal memory if you need it.
• More storage space for apps, games you download from Amazon store.
• you can load media on it and pay through the fire.pics, music etc.
• storage device...similar to a flash drive; usually associated with storing photos for digital cameras but can be used for any digital medium

QUESTION: WILL THIS DEVICE WORK ON SAMSUNG MODEL CODE PN50A460S40XZA SERIAL NO...AQCV3CMQ801112V VERSION SS03??
• Will work with anything with an HDMI
• Call Amazon and get Fire TV Tech and give TV serial number and they will tell you. That's what I did. Good luck!

QUESTION: I HAVE DSL SO VIDEO WOULD NEED TO BUFFER WHEN COMING INTO MY TV. WILL THIS HANDLE THE BUFFERING?
• This would depend on the speed of your DSL. I personally have had no buffering issues at all. however, I have cable internet. What is your DL speed through ur dsl?
• Not sure I have ATT and buffering was the problem I was having with my apple box. No problem that now
• My answer to this question because you do you have to know what speed you're getting in from your DSL provider try wiring it directly to your TV fire box and see what happens then if you have anymore questions please be happy to ask me

QUESTION: WILL IT WORK WITH DERECT TV?
• The AFTV does not use sat. TV service. Only internet. If Directv is your ISP, you will use your data allotment pretty quick.
• I have direct tv on hemisphere 2 and fire tv on hdmi 4. I switch between them all the t ime

QUESTION: WHAT IS KODI?
• Kodi is a media center. Originally called Xbox Media Center/XBMC. Amazon dropped support for it on the Fire TV a few months back. You can buy other devices on Amazon with Kodi installed. The old Apple fork for XBMC was Plex and is fully supported on Amazon.
• Rosey1...you can still load Kodi onto this Gen 2 Fire TV...you just have to goto setting and privacy section and allow downloading of such programs. I have Kodi on both my Gen 2 Devices. Most people will buy Amazon Fire TV because it allows loading up of Kodi which Roku and new Apple TV doesn't since new Apple TV can't be JB yet

QUESTION: HOW DO I GET THE TWC APP ON MY FIRE TV? BEFORE I BOUGHT IT I LOOKED, AND IT WAS LISTED AS ONE OF THE APP'S I COULD GET ON FIRETV BUT NOW SAYS I CAN'T.
• Got no idea . Call Amazon Fire tv support
• I don't know but going to send mine back

QUESTION: CAN YOU MOVE APPS TO MICRO SD FROM FIRE TV OR DOWNLOAD TO MICRO SD?
• I use an app called WI-FI File Transfer. It will install an FTP Server (file transfer protocol). Then from any PC or tablet you can enter the ftp address of your fire device, Fire TV, Fire Tablet or even a Fire Stick into a web browser and connect. You will then see all the folders where you can copy and paste them either way. I hope this helps. Much cleaner and easier. Jim

QUESTION: WHAT ABOUT OTHER REMOTE USE
• The voice remote is extremely user friendly. Even my 4yr old daughter knows how to use the voice activation button and find her fave shows..of course with my supervision.
• It only operates the Amazon Fire Box

QUESTION: CAN YOU WATCH MEXICO CHANNELS ON THIS
• Sling TV does offer a latino package. Also Hulu has this group in their normal offerings.... http://www.hulu.com/latino
• I do not know for sure about any Mexican channels. I have not seen any. However, I do know that you can not watch many, if any, US channels in Mexico using this. This essentially allows you to use one device to watch many of the channels that you have subscribed to. Things like Amazon Prime, Roku, Netflix, HBOGO, Showtime, ETC. It works much faster, and has better audio, than my two year old Blueray player that has similar capabilities.

QUESTION: CAN YOU RECORD NETFLIX OR HULU PLUS?
• Nope. There is no user accessible memory for that.
• You mean like literally record the content from netflix or hulu plus?
• Not that I know off.
• No..
• No, it does not record anything.

QUESTION: IT MENTIONS CABLE, BUT DOES THIS WORK WITH SATELLITE SERVICES LIKE DISH IF YOU HAVE THEM AS A SUBSCRIPTION?
• If you are using a sat service as your ISP, the Fire TV (or any other streamer) will chew up your data limit quickly. If you just use Dish for TV and another internet provider with an unlimited package, you are in good shape.
• You can use the dish anywhere app. It is not yet compatible for the fire tv so if you are willing to go this route. I would recommend you get a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse and side load the app on the fire tv.

QUESTION: HOW DO I CONNECT MY AMAZON FIRE TO THE INTERNET?
• You connect to your router/modem with a cat5 ethernet cord Or use WiFi on either 2.4 or 5 Ghz band. Here is a set of videos that explain all the required installation needs and Help for the Fire TV. https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201493230
• You can either go to settings and connect through Wi-Fi or run an Ethernet cable from your router to the back of your Fire TV. I recommend the latter as your connection will be much smoother :)

QUESTION: HOW MANY TV'S WILL ONE DEVICE WORK ON??
• One.
• It will work on the tv that you have it connected to but you can unplug it and connect it to as many other tvs as you wish
• Is it 1 or 3 tvs??? both answers provided
• 3

QUESTION: REMOTE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING, HAVE PUT IN FRESH BATTERIES, SET IT CLOSE TO THE BOX, & REBOOTED THE BOX SO IT WOULD PAIR UP AGAIN, BUT NO GO. IDEAS?
• It most likely lost it's bluetooth pairing. Could be batteries or something else. Here is the link to pair it.... http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201452760
• If it's the new Fire TV, others would love to know how you got the batteries out! Otherwise, never had that issue. Might try a battery tester to see if the new ones are good.

QUESTION: MY HDMI PORTS BROKEN, CAN HOOK UP ANOTHER WAY?
• No there is not
• You can get an HDMI to RCA/VGA/DVI if your TV has any of those hook ups. But if the HDMI on your FTV is broken then the answer is No.
• I do not believe so.

QUESTION: WILL FIRE TV WORK WITH A TV MONITOR CONNECTED TO AV RECEIVER RATHER THAN A CONVENTIONAL TV WITH BUILT IN TUNER?
• Yes, as long as the receiver can do HDMI inputs and output. This is how I have mine working to take advantage of my speaker system. The Fire TV output is HDMI.
• work only with tvs that have a hdmi port
• Yes, it will work...as long as you are using hdmi. (From fire tv) Hdmi input av rec. hdmi output av rec tv monitor.
• Change your picture setting from auto to direct go to receiver ,home, setup, choose source serup, picture adjust, picture mode, set to direct not auto try that

QUESTION: DOES THE REMOTE SUPPORT IR
• Nope. The Fire TV is CEC compliant so you can use your TV remote for all non voice functions.
• What is ir?
• I'm sorry I'm just trying to comprehend this rapidly changing technology what's ir?

QUESTION: HOW DOES THE FIRE TV COMPARE TO AN XBOX ONE? SHOULD I BUY FIRE TV? OR JUST DOWNLOAD THE APPS ON MY XBOX AND SAVE $100?
• I don't have an Xbox but I love my fire tv.
• I have never used an Xbox for TV but if you have the app available for Fire TV on your Xbox I don't see any need for the box. We have Fire TV on one of our smart TV's so it does not require a box so I would assume the XBox would work the same way.
• The new version of the fire TV offers native 4k content. The Xbox currently does not. If you have a 4k UHD TV the difference is amazing. If you don't the app is a great option.

QUESTION: WILL KODI WORK ON THIS
• Amazon dropped support for Kodi several months back. You can buy devices with Kodi installed.
• I have never done it. However, here is a link:http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Kodi_on_Fire_TV

QUESTION: WANT TO BUY THIS AS A PRESENT FOR SISTER IN THE US; SHE HAS INTERNET BUT NOT CABLE. DOES ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH NON-CABLE CHANNELS FOR FIRE TV?
• I do not have cable. Since the digital transition in 2007, I have no need for it. Local broadcasts are in HD for free and using a digital streamer for movies and such works just fine. She does need broadband internet and a WiFi router/modem for the fire tv stick. The Fire TV box can be direct wired to internet or WiFi in either band (2,4 or 5Ghz).
• You can pay to use slingtv or sideload Kodi
• Should work OK with dsl over the phone line.

QUESTION: CAN THIS BE USED ON A TV WITH AN XBOX ALREADY HOOKED UP?
• Yes... as long as you have another hdmi port on your TV. If you don't, then I'm sure you can get an hdmi switcher to select your xbox or your fire TV.
• Yes u can

QUESTION: CAN I USE MY HOTSPOT ON CELL PHONE FOR THE INTERNET AND USE IT FOR THE FIRE TV. THANKS
• Streaming devices use an awful lot of data and one contributor to this forum got a bill for 700.00 from his cell service. Devices like the Fire TV use 1 to 5G/hr depending on the resolution and compression your ISP uses.
• Technically, yes. In practice, it is not a good idea. Speed is likely too slow, and you will reach the data cap before the closing credits of your first movie.
• Yeah it just needs wifi, it can connect to any hotspot or router. Will use a lot of data, especially for HD content

QUESTION: WILL.IT GET FOX NEWS ?
• Let's hope not 😆
• Fox News
• I think it does, I never try it, don't care for fox news

QUESTION: HOW CAN YOU SEARCH ALL CHANNELS/PROVIDERS/APPS WITH VOICE SEARCH, INSTEAD OF JUST AMAZON PRIME? I WANT IT TO SEARCH EVERYTHING, NOT JUST AMAZON.
• "Voice search is supported for the entirety of Amazon's video, music, app, and game catalog, plus for Hulu, HBO GO, Crackle, Showtime, and Starz."
• Only for Prime
• I don't think this is possible with the current firmware. This is something Amazon would need to change in a future firmware update.
• Just say Acorn, HULU, Netflix, etc. It should pop up with a highlighted choice of what it understood you to say. Go from there.

QUESTION: CAN YOU DOWNLOAD PRIME MOVIES FOR OFF LINE VIEWING? I HAVE A VERY SLOW INTERNET CONNECTION WITH DATA CAPS BUT MORE CAPICITY FOR DATA DURING OFF HOURS.
• No can do, Sorry.
• I am not sure, that is never an issue for me.

QUESTION: I KEEP SEEING THAT NEW GENERATION AFTV FOR 4K. MY TV NOT 4K. WILL LATEST GENERATION STILL WORK? CAN I STILL DOWNLOAD NON-4K CONTENT?
• I have a normal 1080p LG and a 2nd Gen AFTV. Works great with the new 5.0.3.2 update. No issues with any HD content and now I am ready for 4K.
• You will be able to watch anything. Maybe with a little lower quality image.
• Fire TV is 4k capable but will work with non 4k media fine. I also do not have a 4k TV and very happy with Fire TV.
• will the remote work if the box is in a closet? I have a RF remote now and a RF blaster with a eye on the tv

QUESTION: WILL IT PLAY 4K ON A HDTV?
• It will play 4K if your TV is 4K.

QUESTION: DO YOU GET FREE CHANNELS? OR DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR SUBSCRIPTIONS?
• The Fire TV uses apps rather than channels, but there are free apps with network media. Apps for PBS, PBS Kids, YouTube, Smithsonian, Crackle, Pluto TV, CBS News, GoPro, NBC News, NHK World, Tubi TV, FOX News are all ones I have downloaded. All are free. You can also subscribe to services. Popular ones are 8~12/mo.

• Yes you do.
• Yes

• Yez
• Yes you still have to pay for your subscriptions.

QUESTION: HOW ARE THE SOFTWARE PROBLEMS?
• I have not experienced any problems so far.
• I have had no issues with the software!
• I have not had any software issues.
• Fine
• i had no problems with the software.

QUESTION: I HAVE SEVERAL OLD CRT TVS, WOULD THE FIRE BOX SUPPORT USING THEM?
• They would have to have a HDMI connection. Also the resolution on the older CRT's may not be that great.
• Only has HDMI out
• Fire TV requires an HDMI connection
• First, you need a TV with a HDMI connection/capability and you need of course Internet connection. Wireless WiFi or ethernet.
• I don't think so.
• Not unless you have a separate converter device that converts HDMI to an input that is on your tv. They are probably expensive and not worth it. TVs are cheap now - especially 720p 32"

QUESTION: CAN I GET AN APP FOR KODI ?
• Yes you can install kodi but you will need to side load the app, works great!
• yes that what so my computer prints out

• No. It does not record. You can view television shows and movies through Amazon and the additional Apps that can be loaded on to it.

• I dont have one.
• If not in use, it goes into standby mode. I have my television, fire tv, dvd player and other devices plugged into a multi-outlet extension cord which can be switched off and I switch it off overnight. A further option would be to unplug the fire tv.

• The 2.2 hdcp only applies to 4K content. Your sharp is 1080p so the copy protection will work fine on the Fire TV. I am watching a 2nd gen right now. No protection issues have caused a problem for me.
• Just got mine and have not hooked it up yet, sorry I can't help.
• I am happy with the fire TV unit and not the stick...the unit simply hooks up to any HDMI port, (Fire TV Unit, not Stick) your wifi does the rest...
