A FIRE 8 HD DISPLAY WI-FI 8GB Review Won't Answer These 112 Questions

I HAVE READ THAT SOME FIRE MODELS HAVE FREEZE AND CRASH PROBLEMS AND HAVE A SHORT LIFE SPAN AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRES. IS THE FIRE 8 HD DISPLAY WI-FI 8GB A PROBLEM?

• I haven't had any problems with crashes. However, I had to return my original 8 gen. fire due to the volume decreasing every time I would watch hulu, netflix or listen to spotify. The volume would randomly start to go down without anyone touching the volume button. When this would happen I would have to restart the app. This was very frustrating. It would take me a hour to watch a 1/2 hour tv show. I contacted Amazon and was instructed to do a factory reset. That step helped me for one day. I called customer service a second time. They were helpful. I simply asked for an exchange because I still having a volume decreasing issue the customer service agent sent me an email with a return label with no problem. I received the replacement three days later. I have notice that it takes a few seconds longer for the apps that I touch to open, making me to believe that the request is not registering. But it is. I enjoy the fire 8 gen fire. I haven't used every aspect of the tablet just yet but I will!

• I have not had any issues with freezing as of yet. This is a new model and therefore it is still under warranty. One thing I have noticed is that any time I move or bump it the screen goes blank then locks. This is annoying but not to the point where I would return it. I find the battery life is great, overall I am really happy with it.

• It depends on whether you want to store your contents physically on your device or to a cloud. The unit does have an micro SD port that I believe is expandable to 128GB. You can also store to the cloud but only the first 5GB are free. Hope this help clear things up. I would steer clear of this. Yes it is affordable for an inch tablet but for a few extra $ I would get a better unit such as a samsung Tab 4 especially if you plan to use it for a long time.

• The slot is already in place. The additional storage means you have to buy a mini SD memory card, i.e., 16g, 32GB, 64GB OR 128 GB. I purchased the 32GB mini SD Card. My kindle came with 16GB of standard installed memory, but you can add additional memory with a mini SD card.

• The "slot" is easily accessible, it is simple to install more storage memory if you need it. This "slot" is a built in access port for memory installation.

I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THE FIRE 8 HD DISPLAY WI-FI 8GB PRODUCT WITHOUT OFFERS....APPARENTLY NOT AVAILABLE, ONLY WITH THE ANNOYING POPUPS. CAN YOU GET RID OF THEM?

• One...if you've got "annoying pop ups" they are from some free app you've installed. The Fire ONLY shows ads on the screensaver. They do not pop up. Two...yes. You can pay to have the ads removed but if the ads are coming from an app you installed paying to remove the ads isn't going to make any difference because the ads you're seeing aren't coming from Amazon if they're popping up. Go to Manage Your Content and Devices. Choose the Your Devices tab. Choose your Fire. It will say Special Offers: Subscribed then have an Edit link by it. Click Edit, then you'll have to confirm you want to pay to remove ads. The cost is the difference between a Fire with ads, which you bought, and a Fire without ads. But if you're getting pop up ads from an app they're not going away until you uninstall the app that put them there.

• This is a pretty crappy thing to do. Yes, they give you the option to opt out AFTER you decided you want it for the cheaper price they advertise on the main page. How hard would it have been to start with the higher price and then give people the option to get it cheaper with adds? This is supposed to be a platform for buying and using Ebooks and movies from amazon. They should not have adds and the default.

• Buy it new from Amazon and it the area below it will have different options to check if you want them. One is a Kindle without the annoying popups...an extra $15.00, but well worth it.

• Actually,I went for the 32 gig micro sd card.The price was great here on amazon, and I like to download my Rifftrax movies and shorts in case we have a power outage.We have several every winter. Also,I keep a ton of books on the KF because I like to read 5-6 books at a time.And then there are photos I have taken and kept on the KF. So to answer your question:It all depends on what you use your Kindle for.If it is primarily for ebooks and magazines,then 8gigs would be okay.However,since the 32 gig is so inexpensive,I would get one if I were you.You would be surprised at how quickly 8gigs fill up!! • The reason some people get the bigger one is so they don't have to get the SD card and others just bees that much space. If you plan on putting a ton of books/music/ etc and if you plan on taking a lot of photos then get the bigger one. Otherwise, just get the 8 gb. • Screen size is different, hd8 has sd card slot, hd 7 screen has a slightly faster response. Hd8 does not have hdmi port like the hd7. I have Amazon underground on my hd8, but have not figured out if I can get it on the 7. The 8 is more like an android tablet (not exactly though); the 7 has the home screen "carousel ".All in all, I love both devices, but the hd8 is a little more updated, whereas the 7 is a little better quality. Pros and cons to both, it's best to pick out the features you can't live without and go with the device that has most of the features you want. Hope this helps.

• I am hardly a techno-expert, but the HD 8 was just released in one inch larger screen, but the same weight as the 7" so I was sold. I find it fits easily into a pocketbook, however, as I said, with no printed directions, I am still struggling to learn how to use it. I will try youtube. The screen is super-sharp by the way.

• Yes, it works quite well in bright sunshine, I am very happy with mine! I have bought several of the smaller ( two six inch, three of the seven inch and two of the eight inch!) All but one as gifts, plus I have two of the first generation kindle that still work perfectly well, they just do not have the cameras. If you are hard on things, like dropping, they are very sturdy. I did purchase the two year replacement plans on them just in case, but I have had very little problem with them. The kids love them too!

I've had both the Kindle Fire HD 7 and 8 and while there is some reference to glare I find this only to be an issue when either outdoors or if there is a light source shinning from behind. I've been using the Fire HD products for years and have never found screen glare to be an issue.

• It connects if you can give it WIFI yourself. A real GPS is the best choice. One time purchase, search engine for locations, free signal, different travel styles. The company offers updates. Unlike a smart phone, its NOT limited to your (cellphone) provider's signal area. The GPS search engine makes a smart engine's location search pathetic. I have a relative who has to travel all over the state. He used more than one cellphone company. The phone signal cut out a lot more than the GPS

• You wouldn't be able to. It has to have a constant connection to WiFi for apps like that to work, like a laptop. Unless you have a new car with built in WiFi or a phone that can be a wireless hotspot, which in case you might as well just use your phone for maps, this will not work for things like that in your car. You can use it to read books or watch movies that have been previously downloaded. However, my experience with this kindle is it is very slow, and I'm returning mine.

• I'm able to download movies to all my Kindle devices including the my new Fire HD 8. Purchase the movie and put it in your library. Then download. I purchase the SD card and downloaded the movie to that. Depending on your connection speed on your home Wi-Fi, it might take up to 25 minutes for a movie like Frozen or Big Hero. But then you'll be able to watch while not connected since it is on your device. (like on a plane or in the car).

• You can download as many movies as you can fit. I have the 16gb and it can hold about 4-5 HD movies. What is also nice is downloads will automatically delete 48 hours after watching them.

CAN YOU USE MICROSOFT OFFICE?

• There is no app for office (Microsoft would have to develop that). But you can use OneDrive and OneNote. Microsoft does allow you to edit office documents on OneDrive. I have not tried it on the Fire myself, but I have on other devices. As for the Microsoft Office software it is not available on the Fire. If you have Office365 then you can pretty much edit documents on the web through a browser. For hardcore Office use it is best to get a Windows 10 device.

• I use an app called AlwaysOnPC mobile edition, and I do have access to Microsoft Office on my Kindle. However, I recommend that you think carefully when downloading such product onto your Kindle, and I say this because you have a lot less space to handle a large quantity of such apps. You can use Microsoft Office on your Kindle, but I would ask myself how much I will I be using this app on my Kindle.

• I don't know about Microsoft Office but I use an app called OfficeSuite Pro to create and/or edit Excel and Word documents. Someone else told me about an app called WPS Office plus PDF, but I haven't tried it.

• I have no problems reading it outside even in direct sunlight. Because there are many choices of settings for the screen color, print color, text size, and more, you can find one that lets you read it in the sun. At night I always have the background black and the print white so I'm not keeping my husband awake with the glare of the screen. In fact, I use this setting most of the time because it's easier on my eyes. So, although I don't know the technology involved I do know you can read anywhere just by changing the setting.

• No, the Fire HD 8 is a Glass LCD Display Panel. The only way to use this outsude would be to have the brightness set all the way up. You may also try matte finish screen protectors, that reduces the Fire HD.8's glare and cost the same as standard screen protectors. Hope this helps.

• There is many GPS apps. Just add one. Truthfully, doesn't matter what tablet, get a real GPS. You never need to pay for the signal. GPS=One-time purchase, not monthly payments. Since you're not limited to one company's signal area, the signal is not lost as easily. GPS do have build-in search engines. Updates are available; check that the company offers/sells them.

• NO. The Fire HD 8 does not have a GPS. Location based services use WiFi. You could add a GPS via bluetooth, but then if you have no WiFi signal, many map apps won't be able to update. Some map apps *will* let you download the map, or sections of the map, to allow you to use offline. Sorry. I have not tried them. You'll need to research more for those.

THE FIRE 8 HD DISPLAY WI-FI 8GB HAS A DIFFERENT HOME SCREEN INSTEAD OF THE CAROUSEL. HOW DO I DELETE UNWANTED INSTALLED APPS FROM THE HOME SCREEN?

• Locate your Settings screen (put your finger at the top of the home screen and swipe downward, select settings). Then go to Apps and Games > Manage All Applications, from there find the app you want to delete and tap on it. When it opens you'll see an uninstall button located on the top right. If you just want to hide apps instead of deleting: on the home screen, press and hold the app and then drag to another app that you also want to hide, this will create a "folder" you can drag and drop as many apps as you want into this folder. I renamed my folder "Apps I'll Probably Never Use". As for pre-installed apps, it appears you can disable them but not uninstall them. Hope this helps.

• It does come with a dictionary. I elected to pay the extra money to get rid of the ads. I think the screen is ok for my use but I don't have arthritic hands. I would recommend going to Best Buy where they have the Fire 8 on display and it can check it out for comfort. The volume and power buttons are rather small and pretty much blend in with the case. You might have a problem with that.

• You can get rid of the pop-ups that are ads by paying an additional fee for Amazon to remove them. Have you tried using a stylus instead of your hands? My Fire has the opposite problem; I don't think my screen is sensitive enough. :) Finally, I'm not sure about the dictionary.

• No, because it can cause copyright issues. Use the cloud; you don't have to have it downloaded. Once you install the app, the cloud is usable on your TV/computer/game system/etc. Granted, the app is not the best designed, but its worth it. (You can add your shows to cloud through the Amazon.com or the app.)

Nice display , audio is amazingly LoI'd and the amazon underground has some real cool apps for free. Which other kindles didn't have.

You can at least use the Aux cable. (Not going to have the same sound results as a CD or USB.)

I HAVE READ THAT SOME FIRE MODELS HAVE FREEZE AND CRASH PROBLEMS AND HAVE A SHORT LIFE SPAN AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRES. IS THE FIRE 8 HD DISPLAY WI-FI 8GB A PROBLEM?

• I haven't had any problems with crashes. However, I had to return my original 8 gen. fire due to the volume decreasing every time I would watch hulu, netflix or listen to spotify. The volume would randomly start to go down without anyone touching the volume button. When this would happen I would have to restart the app. This was very frustrating. It would take me a hour to watch a 1/2 hour tv show. I contacted Amazon and was instructed to do a factory reset. That step helped me for one day. I called customer service a second time. They were helpful. I simply asked for an exchange because I still having a volume decreasing issue the customer service agent sent me an email with a return label with no problem. I received the replacement three days later. I have notice that it takes a few seconds longer for the apps that I touch to open, making me to believe that the request is not registering. But it is. I enjoy the fire 8 gen fire. I haven't used every aspect of the tablet just yet but I will!

• I have not had any issues with freezing as of yet. This is a new model and therefore it is still under warranty. One thing I have noticed is that any time I move or bump it the screen goes blank then locks. This is annoying but not to the point where I would return it. I find the battery life is great, overall I am really happy with it.

Yes it is affordable for an inch tablet but for a few extra $ I would get a better unit such as a samsung Tab 4 especially if you plan to use it for a long time.

• One...if you've got "annoying pop ups" they are from some free app you've installed. The Fire ONLY shows ads on the screensaver. They do not pop up. Two...yes. You can pay to have the ads removed but if the ads are coming from an app you installed paying to remove the ads isn't going to make any difference because the ads you're seeing aren't coming from Amazon if they're popping up. Go to Manage Your Content and Devices. Choose the Your Devices tab. Choose your Fire. It will say Special Offers: Subscribed then have an Edit link by it. Click Edit, then you'll have to confirm you want to pay to remove ads. The cost is the difference between a Fire with ads, which you bought, and a Fire without ads. But if you're getting pop up ads from an app they're not going away until you uninstall the app that put them there.

• This is a pretty crappy thing to do. Yes, they give you the option to opt out AFTER you decided you want it for the cheaper price they advertise on the main page. How hard would it have been to start with the higher price and then give people the option to get it cheaper with adds? Unless you have a new car with built in WiFi or a phone that can be a wireless hotspot, which in case you might as well just use your phone for maps, this will not work for things like that in your car. You can use it to read books or watch movies that have been previously downloaded. However, my experience with this kindle is it is very slow, and I'm returning mine.

But then you'll be able to watch while not connected since it is on your device. (like on a plane or in the car).

If you have Office365 then you can pretty much edit documents on the web through a browser. For hardcore Office use it is best to get a Windows 10 device.

• I use an app called AlwaysOnPC mobile edition, and I do have access to Microsoft Office on my Kindle. However, I recommend that you think carefully when downloading such product onto your Kindle, and I say this because you have a lot less space to handle a large quantity of such apps. You can use Microsoft Office on your Kindle, but I would ask myself how much I will I be using this app on my Kindle.

Because there are many choices of settings for the screen color, print color, text size, and more, you can find one that lets you read it in the sun. At night I always have the background black and the print white so I'm not keeping my husband awake with the glare of the screen. In fact, I use this setting most of the time because it's easier on my eyes. So, although I don't know the technology involved I do know you can read anywhere just by changing the setting.

Since you're not limited to one company's signal area, the signal is not lost as easily. GPS do have build-in search engines. Updates are available; check that the company offers/sells them.

• NO. The Fire HD 8 does not have a GPS. Location based services use WiFi. You could add a GPS via bluetooth, but then if you have no WiFi signal, many map apps won't be able to update. Some map apps *will* let you download the map, or sections of the map, to allow you to use offline. Sorry. I have not tried them. You'll need to research more for those.

• Locate your Settings screen (put your finger at the top of the home screen and swipe downward, select settings). Then go to Apps and Games > Manage All Applications, from there find the app you want to delete and tap on it. When it opens you'll see an uninstall button located on the top right. If you just want to hide apps instead of deleting: on the home screen, press and hold the app and then drag to another app that you also want to hide, this will create a "folder" you can drag and drop as many apps as you want into this folder. I renamed my folder "Apps I'll Probably Never Use". As for pre-installed apps, it appears you can disable them but not uninstall them. Hope this helps.

• It does come with a dictionary. I elected to pay the extra money to get rid of the ads. I think the screen is ok for my use but I don't have arthritic hands. I would recommend going to Best Buy where they have the Fire 8 on display and it can check it out for comfort. The volume and power buttons are rather small and pretty much blend in with the case. You might have a problem with that.

You can at least use the Aux cable. (Not going to have the same sound results as a CD or USB.)
